Last week our Sixth Form was full of prospective students looking to join our Year 12 cohort in September.

On the day, they got a taste of Sixth Form life at Highbury Fields. They took part in subject lessons to deepen their understanding of the courses they’d chosen. They did enrichment workshops to help them think about their future goals and build the skills they’ll need to succeed both academically and socially in Sixth Form. Lastly, they got to socialise and meet their new peers that they will be studying with for the next 2 years.

On Thursday and Friday last week, our Year 12s were off getting some incredible work experience in the real world. Some of our students visited the Deliveroo Headquarters.

I found the work experience to be quite quintessential to my future career path. This is because I was surrounded by highly ambitious, resilient individuals who helped me understand different roles within a company that has a global audience; inspiring me to research about similar positions. What I found enticing was the consumer relations management because it presented a wider perspective on how Deliveroo uses marketisation to attract hungry customers. In addition, I also enjoyed the variety of delicious cuisines offered to us.

As part of their work experience programme, some of our Year 12 students who are interested in healthcare careers, had the exciting opportunity to visit Highgate Centre (as part of North London NHS Trust) to gain an insight into the wide range of career pathways available within the NHS.

Students heard from current healthcare professionals, including psychologists, psychiatrists and other specialist staff, who shared advice for those interested in working in healthcare. The visit provided valuable guidance on next steps, helping students understand the different routes into NHS careers, application processes and the skills and experiences needed to pursue their chosen pathways.

On Tuesday 23^rd , Year 12 had a workshop on future careers and skills for employability.  The day was filled with discussions and activities from boosting our public speaking skills to interview prep, the day was very interesting and useful. Despite the heat, everyone was engaged and participated with enthusiasm.

Travelling by train, the group left behind the heat of London and spent the day by the coast. A number of students visited Brighton Pier, where they enjoyed the traditional arcade games and rides, with the ghost train being a particular favourite. Some also made the most of the weather by paddling in the sea.

Many students bought Brighton rock while others explored the Lanes: an area of narrow streets and independent shops.

The trip provided an opportunity for students to spend time together following the exam period and to mark the end of their studies at Highbury Fields School. We wish them all well in their next steps and hope they stay in touch.

Last week we said goodbye to our Year 13s. After a month of dedicated revision and challenging exams it was lovely to have a final opportunity for the year group to come together at our Sixth Form centre.

The afternoon started with an assembly where the staff and students reminisced on their time at Highbury Fields Sixth Form, followed by a buffet of food and drink to enjoy in the hot sun.

We will miss the Year 13s greatly, but we wish them the best success as they move forward!

a night to remember

Last week, we welcomed our Year 11 students to their end of year prom. They came in their best dress and had a fantastic night of chatting, eating, dancing, and partying!

It was a wonderful experience, getting to celebrate all the hard work they have put into their education and GCSEs over the last 2 years.

The Year 9s started their challenging journey to Epping Forest on Friday 12^th June on a really hot day.  They read their maps and followed their route, but some got a little lost. Still, they managed to find their way to Gilwell Park where they cooked dinner and played some games, then we had a campfire and they ate smoors.

The students really enjoyed it and Angel said she didn’t even miss her phone, it was really nice just being outdoors and with her friends.  They all completed the exhibition and were very tired when they got back to school on Saturday 13^th June.

Thank you to all the staff for their hard work on both of these trips!

The Year 10s absolutely loved their time camping and trekking through Epping Forest, they walked from Epping right through the forest and down to Chingford. They cooked dinner and breakfast and even offered to make staff tea!  They had two nights camping and both nights they had a campfire.  The Year 10s were singing, dancing and were full of energy, they really did Highbury Fields proud.

DofE was such a fun experience, where I felt I bonded a lot with more people in my year.  I loved toasting marshmallows around the fire and cooking dinner with everyone.  It was so much fun!!
